J.J. is proud to be one of the newest additions to the Torrins family! Born and raised in the tropical climates of Central Florida, J.J. has over 16 years of performing experience. He holds a B.A. in Music from Rollins College in Orlando, Florida where he currently teaches as an adjunct professor of Contemporary Guitar Studies. He studied under the tutelage of guitar heavies, Michael Walker and Bobby Koelble, both instructors for Torrins.com. Born into a Musical family, for J.J. music has always been a way of life. Ever since childhood Music has been a focal point of family life. As a child he grew up around the region's finest musicians jamming in the family living room. Over the course of his own musical career, J.J. has been very fortunate to study and perform with some of the area's top musicians that have been instrumental in helping him to further his development as an artist.
J.J. is talented and dynamic individual with a sound all his own. His influences range from Sting to Jimi Hendrix, Jorge Ben Jor to Jackson Browne, Charlie Hunter to John Mayer, Bob Marley to Bill Frisell, and the list goes on. For J.J. it's not enough to simply play a particular style. For him it's all about getting to the 'roots' of the music! One of the core principles of J.J.'s teaching philosophy is to show students that Music is more than just a passion; it's a way of life! For him, the creative path is a seamless cycle from one act to the next. To date, many of J.J.'s studies delve deep into the interrelationship of Music with Nature and Humanity.
It's truly an exciting time for this extremely talented up and coming Musician! Presently, J.J. is embarking upon the next phase of his musical journey. After 4 solid years of dedicating his craft to his family's business and the surrounding community he is striking out unto a new path with his Music. It's a wide open sea of possibility with some awesome prospects on the horizon! Stay on the lookout for some great Music from this talented individual over the course of the coming year!
